About Dr. Shannon M. Clark

DR.. Shannon M Clark, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist & Babies After 35 Founder Shannon M. Clark, MD, MMS, FACOG, is a double board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist focusing on the care of women with maternal and/ or fetal complications of pregnancy. After finishing medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, KY, Dr. Clark completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. During her first year of residency, she realized her passion for taking care of women with complicated, or high-risk, pregnancies and subsequently pursued a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Masters in Medical Science at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, where she is an Associate Professor with roles as a clinician, researcher, and educator.

Dr. Clark has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for numerous medical journals. She is also actively involved in educating and training medical students, residents and fellows. As a women’s health expert and ACOG media expert, Dr. Clark has contributed to multiple “hot topics” of interest for pregnancy-related magazines, websites, blogs, as well as numerous notable news outlets. As a women’s health writer, she has written for The Huffington Post, Mind Body Green, Glamour, Houston Moms Blog, Self Magazine and The Washington Post.

Dr. Clark has taken a special interest in pregnancy after the age of 35, which according to age alone, is considered a high-risk pregnancy. She was inspired not only by the experiences of friends and patients, but also by her own personal experience of trying to start a family at the age of 40. Dedicated to her education, training and career for 15+ years, Dr. Clark married at the age of 39 and started trying to start a family at age 40. After five failed cycles of IVF, she was able to become pregnant via egg donor and delivered twins Sydney Renée and Rémy Vaughn in September 2016.

In her role as a physician caring for high-risk pregnancies, she has counseled and treated hundreds of women over the years in her very own situation, and has found a whole new respect for the challenges and complications a woman may experience when trying to have a baby later in life. More and more women and delaying child-bearing until after age 35 for various reasons, which has allowed this population to represent a growing number of women becoming pregnant.

With this website, Dr. Clark has utilized her personal expertise in pregnancy-related issues after the age of 35, in addition to her own personal experiences, to develop a source of reliable information for this special group of women. Finally, she hopes to give a voice to women who have experienced pregnancy after age 35 and be a source of information for those who anticipate starting a family later in life.
